Making melody in movies
Anjjan Bhattacharya and Meet Bros Anjjan feels that their combo is composite dish of varied tastes
Mumbai:He is the one third of the happening trio Meet Bros Anjjan. Dissect this unit of Bollywood composers and you’ll get two blood brothers Manmeet and Harmeet Singh and one brotherly mate, Anjjan Bhattacharya. Did you hear a voice echoing Shankar- Ehsaan-Loy in your ears? No wonder.
A probashi Bangalee (non-resident Bengali), hailing from Kanpur (Uttar Pradesh), Anjjan is another Bhattacharya from the same region after the popular singer Abhijeet. Counting almost 20 years ever since he began his struggle to make a successful cut in the musical sphere, Anjjan recollects to have scored a Hindi jingle for the HMV FM channel, when it was first launched in Kolkata. “It was a competition actually. The owners were inviting entries to select a winner with the best written lyrics and notes. And I was luckily chosen,” he shares with an honest smile.
Meeting the Meet siblings in his native place in the early 2000’s was a remarkable turning point of his career, he humbly admits. “Both came to Kanpur and we all got to connect at a concert. May be our stars were linked and the brothers’ sixth sense coaxed me to join their hands to form a band of musicians,” he recalls in a nostalgic voice.
Destiny further pushed the group to the planet-B and the rest as they say, is history. The superhit-makers kept churning out one chartbuster after another. Coming up are Singham Returns’ title-song, Zaalim Dilli, Sharafat Gayi Tel Lene and many other audio-releases tucked under their belt.
But isn’t a Bengali gelling with two Punjabis a deadly combination? “Of course. That is our USP in fact. My harmonies and melodies finely blend with their beats, rhythm and folksy tarka. It’s a well-balanced mix you see. Our style is to be versatile after all,” he concludes.
