Human teeth found in Jesus Christ’s statue
The statue in the parish of San Bartolo Cuautlalpan has eight human teeth
Mexico: Specialists of 18th Century artwork have discovered that the statue of the Lord of Patience in the parish of San Bartolo Cuautlalpan has eight teeth which used to belong to an adult human, Mexico’s National Institute of Anthropology and History has announced.
“The teeth were probably donated as a token of gratitude. It’s the first time human teeth have been found in a sculpture” head restorer Fanny Unikel was quoted as saying by the BBC. In Mexico, parishioners are known to have volunteered their hair to make wigs for saints, but the teeth and nails of statues are usually made of bones and animal horns.
