Andhra Pradesh capital in 5,000 hectares
Hyderabad: Experts from various fields such as education, medical, health, technical, IT industry and culture among others will help the Andhra Pradesh government to design and build a world-class capital city.
For this purpose, sector-wise sub-committees will be constituted, which will help the state-level advisory committee on the capital city, that comprises business honchos and is headed by municipal administration and urban development minister P. Narayana.
The committee, in its meeting on Saturday, discussed about 53 cities in India and abroad, their area, design and model. It was suggested that a good capital city can be built in 5,000 hectares of land, which indicate that the capital would be located in Krishna-Guntur district only, feel many.
Sources said the committee pitched for clustered development, in which all schools will be in one node, banks in another centre, government offices in another urban node and so on.
“The committee said that Putrajaya and Navi Mumbai models are an excellent example to be emulated for clustered development. The members also felt that the Singapore model has to be considered too,” sources said.
After the meeting, municipal minister Mr Narayana confirmed that the proposal for sub-committees would be placed in the Cabinet. “We have decided to visit 10 cities, including four in India and six abroad. Chandigarh, Gandhinagar, Navi Mumbai and new Raipur in India, and Brasilia (Brazil), Islamabad (Pakistan), Astana (Kazakhstan), Putrajaya (Malaysia), Jeddah/Dubai, and Singapore abroad. We will start the tour to these cities in the last week of September,” he said.
Work on the construction of the capital will commence after the Sivaramakrishnan committee submits its report by August 20. The Committee will visit Kadapa, Nellore and Prakasam districts in its state tour.
