Vibgyor Rape Case: Police officials take initiative, meet parents

The meeting between the police officials and around 25 parents went on for two hours

Bengaluru: A group of worried parents of the students of Vibgyor High, Marathahalli were asked to meet police officials at Koramangala police station for a confidence-building session on Saturday evening. It was organised under the leadership of Joint Commissioner K.V. Sharat Chandra, Deputy Commissioner of Police (South East) Dr Rohini Katoch Sepat and other officers.

The parents, after taking stock on the progress of ongoing investigations into the rape of a six-year-old student, had demanded a meeting with the investigating police officials for reassurance. The meeting was not conducted on the school premises as more than 50 parents were willing to participate and it was against the investigation protocols to hold such a large gathering inside the school, which happened to be the crime spot.

The meeting between the police officials and around 25 parents went on for two hours and the police briefed them about the investigations and reassured the parents that their wards were safe at the school. Some parents have still not sent their wards to the school, while others have started sending them, but are feeling insecure about it.

“The school is up and actively running as before and has even put up ads on their buses saying admissions open as many students are leaving the school. Few parents are in a state of dilemma as to whether to send their kids to school or not. My daughter is in 8th grade and is attending it regularly since the day it reopened, but I wasn’t convinced, that’s why I am attended today’s meeting” said Chandrima Dutta, a parent.

“We are glad that a senior female officer has been brought into the case as that she will have a better perspective on pursuing with the case. DCP Dr. Rohini Katoch assured us that the case would not be left midway of the investigation and personally guaranteed for the safety of our children,” another parent said.
