Telangana Chief Minister: Can’t give law, order to Governor
CM calls PM Modi a fascist, rejects directive
Hyderabad: The Telangana government is heading for a confrontation with the Centre over the latter’s decision to hand over over law and order to the Governor in Hyderabad.
Furious over the Centre’s decision, Chief Minister K. Chandrasekhar Rao has written to Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Union home minister Rajnath Singh that it will not be possible to hand over law and order, a state subject, to the Governor.
The CM was reacting soon after the chief secretary received a “final letter” from the Ministry of Home Affairs to the state on handing over law and order to the Governor on Friday.
“We will not be able to implement the Centre’s directive. This is the message of the CM to the Centre,” a senior official said. Accusing Mr Modi of behaving like a “fascist”, Mr Rao said he would soon convene a meeting of the CMs of various states against the Centre’s infringement of Constitutional rights of the state and blatant interference in state affairs. Mr Rao, who is away in his farmhouse, had asked the chief secretary to write a strong letter to the Centre opposing its move.
“The CM is angry over the Centre’s decision to bring law and order in Hyderabad under the control of the Governor. He has decided to organise a conference of CMs to oppose interference in state affairs,” a senior government official told DC.
