Former BJP leader Jaswant Singh in coma after fall
The veteran leader is on “life-support systems” after a head injury
New Delhi: Former BJP leader Jaswant Singh is in a “coma” and in “highly critical” condition, the government said on Friday, adding that the veteran leader is on “life-support systems” after a head injury.
The ministry of defence (MoD) said Mr Singh, 76, was admitted to the Army (Research & Referral) Hospital in New Delhi at about 1 am on Friday after his “family members had brought him to the hospital after finding him lying on the floor of the house in an unconscious state”. Prime Minister Narendra Modi has spoken to his family and prayed for Mr Singh’s speedy recovery.
“Examination at the hospital showed him to be in coma, with signs of raised intracranial tension and a haematoma scalp. A CT scan of the head showed an acute subdural haematoma,” the MoD said.
Mr Singh, who had also served as external affairs minister and finance minister in the Vajpayee government, was expelled from the BJP early this year after he decided to contest the Lok Sabha polls from Barmer in Rajasthan as an Independent when the party decided to field Sonaram Chaudhary. Mr Singh had lost the election.
