Assam school teachers outsource job
Guwahati: A day after Assam education minister Pradyut Bordoloi revealed that a section of school teachers in the state was “outsourcing” their jobs instead of taking classes themselves, at least 30 school teachers were placed under suspension in Southern Assam’s Hailakandi district for dereliction of duty.
Hailakandi deputy commissioner Shamsher Singh, during the surprise visit at government-run Lakhirbond High Madrassa found that 15 teachers were absent.
Deputy inspector of schools Nripen Das and block education officer Arun Singh were also served showcause notices for dereliction of duty.
This has come close on the heels of education minister Mr Borodoloi’s comment in the Assembly, “It has come to the notice of the government that some teachers, instead of coming to school, were delegating their work to others for a commission.”
These unscrupulous teachers reportedly pay a part of their salary to the “outsourced teachers” as commission.
“We have taken this matter very seriously and strong action will be taken against such teachers. Those found guilty will be dismissed with immediate effect,” said Mr Bordoloi.
He also disclosed that affairs in the state education department had rea-ched to a level that over 200 teachers were transferred through the SMS.
Mr Bordoloi, who has taken over the department after resignation of Him-anta Biswa Sarma, said that the state government was according top priority to setting up of schools in the backward areas of the state like tea-gardens and river-islands that lack educational facilities.
“We have plans to set up 500-odd schools in the backward areas of the state,” he said.
