‘Political realignment chances subverted by BJP’s victory’
Thiruvananthapuram: Social scientist and AAP Political Affairs Committee member Prof Yogendra Yadav on Thursday said that the massive victory of BJP and near decimation of the Congress in the country, has thrown up the possibility of political realignment.
Delivering the 13th Narendran Memorial lecture here Mr Yadav said; “I don’t mean realignment of political parties, I am speaking of realignment of voters.’’ There has been no strong opposition worth the name in large parts of the country Rajasthan, Madhya Pradesh, Gujarat, Orrissa. And people have started saying enough is enough,'' he said.
Mr Yadav said the kind of majority the BJP has got and Mr Modi’s rise to power was something every Indian must be concerned. “The reason is very simple. The idea of India has three pillars; democracy, diversity and development. Democracy in a situation of poverty and deprivation, diversity in a country marked by deep differences and development for the last person. Mr Modi happens to be one of the few persons in our political life who is at the intersection of opposition to all these three ideas,’’ he said.
He said he was not sure about Kerala’s situation but in his home state Haryana and large parts of the country the communal situation had turned form bad to worse in the last two months.
The AAP leader said that despite the moment of despair he wanted to persuade people that there was a window of opportunity. “During the course of last two years a new political energy has appeared in the country, not talking about the AAP but the larger anti corruption movement. After a very long time young idealists men and women are saying “ I want to take to politics. I don’t remember after JP movement or naxalite movement, such large number of young people taking to politics,'” he said.
He said the country needed this positive energy enter into the public domain.
