Telugu Desam bags both Zilla Parishad posts in Khammam
Hyderabad: Telugu Desam ZPTC from Venkatapuram, Gadipalli Kavita, has been elected as woman chairperson of Khammam zilla parishad, which was reserved for SC (women).
After her election, Ms Kavita said she would concentrate on the development of backward mandals in the district. She thanked the ZPTCs who voted for her.
Khammam is the only zilla parishad won by the Telugu Desam in the Telangana state. Ms Kavita won with 22 votes against Congress ZPTC from Pinapaka Jadi Janakamma, who got 10 votes out of 39 ZPTCs. The three member CPI-(ML) New Democracy boycotted the election in protest against the Ordinanance on Polavaram project while the CPI and the CPI-M have extended support to the TD candidate.
Telugu Desam ZPTC from Paloncha, Barapati Vasudeva Rao, won as vice-chairman of the Khammam zilla parishad and the Congress, which obtained 10 ZPTCs, was not in the contest.
Earlier, the members elected Moulana of the CPI and Rijiuddin of the CPI-M as co-opted members to the zilla parishad.
Former minister Tummala Nageswara Rao succeeded in giving the post to his follower though former MP Nama Nageswara Rao and MLC Potla Nageswara Rao vied to get the post to their associates.
Former minister and Palair legislator R. Venkat Reddy, former deputy speaker and Madhira MLA Bhatti Vikramarka, Yellandu MLA Koram Kanakaiah, Khammam MLA P. Ajay Kumar, Sattupalli MLA S. Venkata Veeraiah, Aswaraopet MLA Thati Venkateswarlu and MLC B. Laxminarayana were present on the occasion.
