Congress MLA Abhayachandra Jain upsets Chikmagalur councillors

The Congress leader lamented that the party had lost its base in the district

Chikmagalur: Congress councillors of Chikmagalur are upset with minister for fisheries and sports and youth services, Abhayachandra Jain who was allegedly dismissive when they approached him with the problems of the district, saying, “This is not my constituency. My constituency (Moodabidri) is hundreds of kilometers away.”

The councillors say they were aghast by his response as although Mr Jain represents Moodabidri in the assembly , he is also the district in-charge minister of Chikmagalur.

A councillor, who was part of the team that met Mr Jain om Wednesday told the Deccan Chronicle on Thursday, “We requested Jain to focus on the development of Chikmagalur but he responded saying he had to concentrate on his home constituency of Moodabidri. If he is not keen on handling Chikmagalur, he must ask CM Siddaramaiah to relieve him of his responsibility and concentrate on his home constituency.”

The Congress leader lamented that the party had lost its base in the district and the attitude of Mr Jain would only make matters worse.
Said another councillor, “Jain later tried to reach out to us through district Congress president, D.L. Vijaykumar but none of us were keen on patching up with him.” In fact, annoyed by the minister’s attitude the councillors later decided to offer to resign from the party.

But when contacted, Mr Vijaykumar said none of the Congress councillors had resigned from the party. “There was a communication gap between the councillors and the minister and the matter has been resolved now,” he claimed.
