Warangal centre tests 100 allergies

Aswini Allergy Centre successfully identified an allergy in two children

Hyderabad: Identifying the cause of an allergic reaction is more important than treating children with different medicines.

Excessive medication can often make the case chronic and the exact allergen can’t be identified. Allergy testing is being looked upon as a method to identify allergens. A 100 allergies were tested for the first time by the Aswini Allergy Centre in Warangal. The centre successfully identified an allergy in two children.

Dr Vyakarnam Nageshwar, chief allergist, said, “They were suffering from shortness of breath, cold and sneezes for the past two years. They also had rashes and itchy skin. Medicines had minimal effect. The panel carried out the allergy identification process and zeroed in on the specific allergen which helped doctors treat the two patients successfully.”

Children are badly affected by allergies. At least 4 to 6 per cent of them are affected by food-related allergies, 20 per cent of them are affected by asthma and 15 to 25 per cent of them suffer from frequent colds, sneezes, running nose and also nasal obstruction.
