Chennai: Farmers now have more reasons to smile as the government will provide them nominally priced Amma seeds through Amma service centres.
Making a suo moto on Thursday, Chief Minister Jayalalithaa said 150 eco-friendly integrated pest management villages would be set up across the state. She said Amma Farm Women Skill
Development scheme would be implemented at a cost of Rs 113.26 crore to improve the skills of women involved in agriculture related work.
“Through this scheme, 770 farm women groups will be formed this year and necessary financial assistance will be extended,” Ms Jayalalithaa added.
The CM also announced that agriculture colleges and research centres would be established at an outlay of Rs 150 crore in Pudukottai, Thanjavur and Thiruvanamalai districts. A new scheme involving farmers will be introduced at a cost of Rs 16.9 crore to increase food production in the state.
Integrated check post at Hosur:
In an effort to increase tax collection from commercial transport vehicles, the state government announced the setting up of an integrated check post near Hosur.
Ms Jayalalithaa said the check post, involving the police, commercial tax, transport, revenue, food, civil supplies protection, prohibition and excise departments would be set up in Hosur at a cost of Rs 120 crore. “This would help in subjecting cargo vehicles to regular checking,” she said.
