Madras High Court dumps three CBI medical college cases

Madras high court has dismissed CBI cases against three private medical college
Chennai: In an order of far-reaching consequences, the Madras high court has dismissed CBI cases against three private medical college, one of them in Puducherry and owned by the family of a former DMK Union Minister holding that the investigating agency had no power to go into the working of these colleges when the Medical Council of India (MCI) was the sole authority mandated to monitor medical education in the country.
The court verdict could keep the CBI and any other police agency off investigating complaints of fraud and corruption in medical institutions.
The CBI, among other things, had charged the three colleges with committing fraud by flaunting faculty not actually on their rolls when the MCI teams inspected them.
