University renaming row: KCR tells Chandrababu Naidu not to waste time
Hyderabad: Hitting out at Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister N. Chandrabababu Naidu for taking objection to the renaming of Acharya N.G. Ranga University to Prof. Jayashankar University, Telangana Chief Minister K. Chandrasekhar Rao said, “Telangana life has been a big fight all through. From the armed struggle till now, we are not scared of fighting.
“My advice to you is don’t waste your time and we will not waste ours. It’s not good for both of us. You lead your life peacefully and allow us to lead our life peacefully,” Mr Rao remarked.
Challenging the AP government to compete with the Telangana government in development and welfare sc-hemes, he said the conflict between both states on certain unnecessary issues had put officials and people through unnecessary hardship.
He was speaking at a function to launch the ‘Mana Vooru, Mana Kuragayalu’ scheme to improve production of vegetables in the state at the Prof. Jayashankar Agricultural University at Rajendranagar here.
Referring to renaming the varsity, he said, “Some Andhra friends are feeling jealous. They are unhappy that Telangana people got a new state, established their own state organisations and are naming them after their leaders. They are feeling sad about it. I don’t understand why,” he said.
He added, “Is there a greater leader than Jayashankar in Telangana? We have named the university after a great leader. It is our organisation, our university and we have named it after him.”
Why are you crying? We are not eyeing other things like you.”
Stating that cultural invasion in Telangana had to go, Mr Rao added, “When parents who come on a picnic to the city from districts, when they don’t understand the statues, names, what will they tell their children and others? Do we need them? We will not allow this kind of cultural invasion to be continued. We will not allow it anymore.”
The Chief Minister also said that the Andhra Pradesh government should establish its own university and not worry about Telangana. “Let them have a great university in Andhra, we don’t object. If you want to study here we will provide 15 per cent quota, but you will have to pay the fees for your children, we will pay the fees of our children. If our children study in Andhra we will pay the fees. There is no issue. Is it wrong?”
