To boost KSRTC, minister wants night private buses stopped

Revenue of State Owned Corporations has gone up after pvt buses stopped at day time
GULBARGA: Here is a heartbreaking news for the private bus operators, who ply their fleet mainly during night hours under the contract-carriage system in the State. The State government proposes to gradually replace them with its own service, which is expanding at a rapid pace. This was indicated by Transport Minister Ramalinga Reddy.
Mr Reddy, who was here to participate in a host of programmes, including inauguration of a bus depot and a bus stand, told reporters that as a result of stoppage of fleet operations by the private owners during day time in North Karnataka region, the daily revenue of state owned Corporations has gone up by about Rs 20-25 lakh. “We also want to stop the bus operation by private owners during night hours as well.
But it cannot be done all of a sudden as it would put the public to inconvenience as we are not yet prepared to provide the kind of service provided by them. We need to strengthen our services first before we undertake the step,” Mr Reddy stated.
The Minister admitted that there was still loss of some revenue to the state owned corporations due to carrying of passengers by the private jeeps etc. “We have sought the help of police to stop these illegal operations as there is a big shortage of road transport inspectors in the state,” he added.
The Hyderabad Karnataka region would be benefitted in a very big way in the forthcoming recruitment by the North Eastern Road Transport Corporation (NEKRTC). “The appointments to the NEKRTC were held up during the last three years due to the proposed amendment to the Article 371(J).
Now following the amendment, as many 3200 posts of the proposed total 4,020 posts for which appointments would be held, would go to the candidates from the HK region,” Mr Reddy opined. Of the total 4,020 posts, 3,018 would be for drivers and conductors, 500 for mechanics and the remaining 480 clerical posts.
The Minister stated that the public transport system in the urban areas of HK region would be strengthened further with the induction of 330 buses under the JnNURM programme.
