Naik Subedar Patan Kumar Poddar also ran chit plan
Hyderabad: Hyderabad police commissioner M. Mahender Reddy said that since Naik Subedar Patan Kumar Poddar, of the EME, worked in the MC/MF detachment, Secunderabad Railway Station, he came in contact with many Army officials from different parts of the country when they approached him for train ticket reservations.
“He had also widened his contacts through his personal business venture named Secured Life, which is a money circulation scheme,” said Mr Reddy.
Police said Patan had been in touch with the woman for more than a year. “He has been passing on information to her through phone, emails, and social networking sites for at least six months now. She would lure him by sending nude photographs and videos, and he would collect information and would pass it on,” a senior police official said.
The accused has been sent for 14-day judicial remand after the police booked a case against him under Sections 3,4 and 5 of Official Secrets Act, read with IPC 120 B, which includes criminal conspiracy.
City police said that since Patan Kumar was also illegally running a money circulation scheme, he was also booked under Sections 3 and 4 of Prize Chits Money Circulation Banning Act, 1977.
