IIT-Madras classes set to go live

Lectures would be delivered live from IIT studios to all classrooms simultaneously

Chennai: With an aim to take quality technical education to students in government and private engineering colleges in the country, IIT-Madras and the Confederation of Indian Industry (CII) have joined hands to provide quality enhancement in engineering education (QEEE) programme, in which IIT would provide classes live to thousands of students.

Ashok Jhunjhunwala, a professor at IIT-Madras and the chairman of the HRD ministry’s QEEE programme, said the country had not done enough to improve quality of technical education, which made the HRD ministry come up with the QEEE programme.

IIT-Madras director Prof Bhaskar Ramamurthi explained that the programme would contain 12 live courses, two virtual labs, one tutorial and one open and online course to over 100 engineering colleges.

“The lectures would be delivered live from IIT studios to all classrooms simultaneously. Students would be able to interact with the faculty during the lectures,” he said.
