Hussainsagar nearing full tank level

The lake is likely to touch its full tank level with another two-three showers

Hyderabad: Hussainsagar water level was at 513.1 feet on Tuesday, as against its full tank level (FTL) of 513.4 feet. The lake is likely to touch its FTL with another two-three showers and it may even cross the FTL, if there are continuous inflows in the days to come.

In case of excess inflows into the Hussainsagar Surplus Nala, areas like Ambedkarnagar, Aru-ndhatinagar, Ratnanagar etc. might face inundation, officials said. However, there is no immediate danger, they added.

S. Venkatesh, the executive engineer of the Hussainsagar Lake Division, said there was no cause for alarm since the inflow and outflow of water was under control. The lake’s level for the last two weeks has been between 512.9 feet and 513.1 feet, and even if it reaches 513.4 feet, which is its FTL, it is no cause for concern. However, if it breaches the 513.7-foot mark, like it did in 2013, then it could be problematic.

The lake’s catchment area is of 244 sq.km. The lake has two outflow points — one at Hotel Marriott and another at the GHMC head office. In case the water level crosses the FTL, the Hyderabad district administration and the Greater Hyderabad Mun-icipal Corporation officials will alert residents through public systems and request them to shift to nearby rehabilitation centres if the level crosses 513.8 feet.
