Nizam Sugars General Manager commits suicide

Police investigating if firm’s deteriorating health was reason behind the extreme step
Hyderabad: General Manager of Nizam Sugars Limited, M. Janaki Ram Sharma (55), committed suicide in his office on Monday night apparently due to work pressure. Sharma, who did not return home after office hours, was found hanging from the ceiling by the police and his family members at around 11.30 pm.
While Saifabad police have not found a suicide note, Inspector P. Ashok said that initial inquiry had revealed that Sharma was stressed about his work. The police is investigating if the deteriorating financial status of Nizam Sugars Limited had affected Mr Sharma.
On Monday afternoon, Mr Sharma had sent his office assistant to get a rope from the market. “The office employee did not know what the rope was for. He bought a five-meter rope as per Mr Sharma’s direction. After office hours, Sharma told the other employees that he had some additional work pending and stayed back in office,” said Saifabad SI Naresh Kumar.
Sharma would usually return home from work before 6.30 in the evening. “On Monday evening, as he did not come back home, his son and wife tried calling him. When they found his mobile phone switched off, they approached us, after which we launched a search mission,” said Saifabad Inspector Ashok.
When police and Sharma’s son, Mr Srinivas, checked the office building, they found that his room was locked from inside. When they broke into the room, they found him hanging from the ceiling.
Investigation officials said that Sharma had retired three years back but had rejoined after being requested. He was living with his family at Prashant Nagar in Moosaram Bag.
Saifabad police has booked a case under CrPC section 174 for suspicious death and has started investigations.
