Michelle Obama wears Prabal Gurung dress to State Dinner
Washington: US First Lady Michelle Obama wore a dress designed by top Nepalese designer Prabal Gurung to a State Dinner hosted by President Barack Obama here for African leaders from more than 50 countries.
"It (the dress) is light, described by several people as cream-coloured, with a deep V cut out of the back," a White House pool report said, adding that it was a Gurung dress. Michelle has often worn dresses designed by Gurung at various important occasions. She was last seen wearing a Gurung dress in April during annual dinner of the White House Correspondents Association.
Gurung was born in Singapore to Nepalese parents and raised in Kathmandu, he began his designing career in New Delhi.
While studying at New Delhi's National Institute of Fashion Technology, he apprenticed at several local production and fashion houses and even designed with Manish Arora.
After Melbourne and London, Gurung moved to New York, where he is based now.
His designs have been worn by several other celebrities including Oprah Winfrey and Deepika Padukone.
