Ready for the Xiaomi Mi 3 sale? Read this first, and you won't be sorry
Flipkart’s Xiaomi Mi 3 sale is all set to begin at 2 PM today. The last sale witnessed a huge traffic on the second flash sale and many fans and customers ended up with errors and messages that the handsets are out of stock. While many reported that the sale was a scam, others claimed that they successfully got through the sale and managed to purchase it. Later, we even found people finding out that the computer clocks were not syncing with the Flipkart server clock. While this could not be completely true, we did manage to dig in a little more.
We tried this—we opened the Flipkart page and waited for the countdown to start. We did not find anything unusual until we opened another browser and tried the same.
We finally opened three browsers and hit the same website where the countdown clock informs you about the time remaining for the sale to start. We used Opera, Chrome and Firefox to log in to the Flipkart sale site and stayed on the page for 20 minutes (and are still on it). The three browsers were in sync when we refreshed the page at the same time, but after 15 – 20 minutes, the time difference between the three were almost four minutes apart. Take a look at the three screenshots and also note the computer time on the bottom of each screenshot. Please note: We have not altered or doctored the images in any way. Thanks to a customer, Ms Marie Fernandes, who alerted us regarding this issue.
To cut short, there is a difference between every browser that you use. Every browser has a script running in the background and refreshes the page accordingly. While Opera does it in a different way and speed, Chrome and Firefox also differ in their scripts.
We also did notice another issue—we logged into Opera and used two different tabs to get to the sale website. After around 15 minutes, we saw the same difference even using the same browser. Check out this screenshots below and note the computer time on the bottom.
This little research shows a tricky situation since we do not know whom to blame—the browser, the computer time, the internet connection or Flipkart? We are yet to find out.
We got in touch with Xiaomi and alerted them about the same. We are yet to get back with a solution so that fans and customers are not disappointed.
Stay tuned and we shall update this story further after we receive more information from Xiaomi and Flipkart regarding this issue.
We shall be back.
