Hyderabad: A Division Bench comprising Chief Justice Kalyan Jyoti Sengupta and Justice P.V. Sanjay Kumar of the Hyderabad High Court on Monday granted a day to the Telangana state government to explain under which law it has asked the vehicle owners to go for a re-registration of their vehicles and add TS to their number plates in place of AP.
The Bench was dealing with a plea by Rammohan Chowdary, a resident of the city, challenging a GO issued by the government on July 17, asking all the vehicle owners to change their number plates from AP to TS through a process of re-registration.
Justice Sengupta said, “If you have power you can do it. But first show us where your power is. Which law empowered you to do so?”
While replying that it is only a preliminary notification and not yet finalised by the state, the counsel sought some time to answer this query. The Bench posted the matter to Tuesday.
