Second meet on Power Purchase Agreements inconclusive
Hyderabad: The second high-level committee’s meeting held in New Delhi to resolve power disputes between the two states, especially the crucial PPA (power purchase agreements) issue, remained inconclusive on Monday. Both sides vehemently opposed the recommendations made by the high-level committee formed under the AP Reorganisation Act 2014. After this second high-level meeting, the matter might be referred to the law ministry.
The committee had submitted its draft recommendation in New Delhi where it had stressed that the PPAs should be continued as specified in the AP Reorganisation Act. Andhra Pradesh stood by its stand of not honouring the previous Power Purchase Agreements as they were not approved by the Andhra Pradesh State Electricity Regulatory Commission (APERC). While AP officials opposed the recommendation, which was clearly in favour of Telangana, officials from Telangana opposed recommendations like allocations from Central Generating Stations and energy from non-conventional sources, which were in favour of AP. As a result, the three-hour long meeting remained inconclusive and indecisive.
