Rooster attacks, pecks kid to death

‘Giriraja’ bird tried to attack others too
Hyderabad: An aggressive rooster attacked an eight-month old infant, and killed her in the Laxmi Devi Gudem village of Nalgonda district. The baby, K. Janvi, suffered severe injuries on her head after the cock pecked her. She succumbed while undergoing medical treatment. The kid’s mother, K. Seetha, had left her on the veranda, and was busy with household work when the cock attacked.
The incident occurred last Friday. Janvi succumbed on Saturday. The parents, Mr K. Saidulu and his wife, who are farmers, used to raise hens and roosters at their house. The rooster, which belonged to the ‘Giriraja’ breed was behaving aggressively since some days. “Parents told us that the cock which attacked the child was jumping and trying to peck others in the house since some days. It attacked the kid when nobody was there to look after her,” said Munugode SI V. Balgopal.
The kid’s mother heard the infant crying loudly. When she rushed to the veranda, she saw the child bleeding heavily. “They took her to a hospital in Nalgonda and the kid was treated. The doctors asked them to take her to a multi-speciality hospital in Hyderabad since the injury was serious,” said the SI. Janvi had serious head injuries and parts of her skull were damaged by the pecking.
“On Saturday morning, while rushing her to Hyderabad, she succumbed,” said Mr Balgopal. The parents performed her last rites without conducting postmortem. The local police was informed two days after the incident. Police officials from the Munugode police station said that since there was no complaint no case was registered.
