Censor officer gives director heart attack

Raj Kiran, has been hospitalised with chest pains allegedly because the Censor Board is dragging its feet to certify his film

Hyderabad: Director Raj Kiran who directed the Anjali-starrer Geethanjali was hospitalised on Tuesday with chest pains and the Censor Board is allegedly to blame.

Despite submitting the film on July 28, the movie has still not been certified by Regional Censor Board officer A. Dhanalakshmi. For the last few days he had been visiting the Censor Board, requesting the officer for the certificate.

Kona Venkat, one of the producers of the film says, “We had announced the release date of our film as August 8 and we had applied for the certificate on July 29. The officer hasn’t even looked at it and is saying that there are many films in line and once she has completed those she will check our film.”

The producer adds that that the films ahead of Geethanjali on the Censor Board’s list are not for theatrical release. “Nowadays everything is digital and many people make small films and apply for censor certificates. Those films are not for theatre release. She has to give priority to Telugu feature films. But she is citing many rules and doing this deliberately,” he adds.

Kona says that the director had been visiting the censor officer for the last few days and was very stressed. “This morning he called me and said that he was having chest pains. We immediately admitted him in a private hospital. Though I told the director not to worry, this is his first film and is very important for his life and career,” he says.
