Evelyn Sharma makes Something Beautiful

Actress will soon launch her debut song in collaboration with Brooklyn Shanti

Evelyn Sharma is the latest Indian actress to attempt to make a mark in the international music scene. Following Priyanka Chopra’s high profile collaborations with the likes of Will.i.am and Pit Bull, the Yeh Jawani Hai Deewani actress is currently counting down the days to the launch of her new album in collaboration with Indo-American dub artiste Brooklyn Shanti.

While Evelyn has always wanted to sing, she says that she had been waiting for the right kind of artiste to collaborate with. “I sing in the showers and in my car,” she laughs. “I was also in the church choir, and that pretty much has been the training I have had. But in a choir it is way easier to sing than when you are singing a solo,” she adds.

But what sets Evelyn’s debut apart is that while other actors are primarily churning out pop tunes, Evelyn has chosen to work with an artiste who has gained a reputation for composing some serious music in the genre of rap, hip hop and dub.

The new single called Something Beautiful is, according to the actress, “motivational”. “It’s a song that tells you to believe in yourself and your dreams. That belief helped me personally to find my own path,” she says, adding, “Now, I hope to pass on that to my fans as well.”

The actress was urged to sing and even pen her own lyrics by Brooklyn Shanti. “We were on a promotional tour together for one of my films. And that’s when he heard my voice. ‘You have a beautiful voice, and you should sing and make music’ he said. I said ‘no’ initially. But later on he convinced me to at least write lyrics. And once the song was ready, he ensured that I would sing it too,” she says.

She adds that Something Beautiful is a reflection of a time when she did not feel good about herself. “I have written some more songs and recorded them too. But then, I am first going to wait for the response of the first one before I launch any more music,” she says, adding, “Films are my priority now.”
