‘Maharani should try to reach out to Sonia’
Mysore: A day after Maharani Pramoda Devi made a ‘tearful’ appeal to the Karnataka government to resolve the Mysore Palace property dispute and expressed her helplessness in appointing a successor to the 600-year-old Yadu dynasty till the row was resolved, several members of the royal family are of the opinion that Pramoda Devi should try and reach out to Congress president Sonia Gandhi instead of making appeals to the state government.
Speaking to Deccan Chronicle, a Mysore royal family member said on the condition of anonymity that this is the apt time for the Maharani to get in touch with Mrs Sonia Gandhi to seek her help in resolving the Palace dispute. “If the maharani can present the Mysore royal family case effectively before the Congress chief, withdrawing the contentious Mysore Palace Acquisition Act would just be a formality. A simple ordinance can do the job”.
Another member of the royal family took exception to the viewpoint of Mrs Pramoda Devi that she will not appoint a successor until the Palace property dispute is resolved. “Ms. Pramoda Devi should try and appoint an able person as successor to continue the legal battle left behind by Srikantadatta Narasimharaja Wadiyar and protect all other properties. Not appointing a successor before this Da sara also means there would be no private durbar, which would be a break in a centuries-old tradition”.
MP Simha meets Maharani: Mysore-Kodagu BJP MP Pratap Simha on Sunday met Maharani Pramoda Devi. Later, Mr. Simha told reporters: Ms Pramoda Devi is in a lot of pain and it’s not appropriate to pain her anymore. The State government should take the royal family into confidence and resolve the dispute”.
