Kochi Metro work disrupted again

Local people demand making Kalamassery stretch motorable
Kochi: Metro construction activities were suspended for the second day on Sunday at Kalamassery, a day after local people disrupted works demanding that the huge potholes there be filled first so that the stretch would be motorable.
“Usually we function till noon on Sundays. However, the work has been suspended today as a decision on filling up the potholes is being taken. We don’t want another issue with the locals. However, they will have to endure certain difficulties so that they can benefit by metro trains in the future,” said an official of the L & T.
On Saturday, the locals blocked the work at Kalamassery and Choornikkara around 2.30 pm and the L & T officials suspended the work.
“Two officials from the L& T and the DMRC promised they would fix the deep potholes formed near the Kalamassery Premier ground. They had even undertaken temporary activities like flushing out the rain water, filling the potholes with sand and the like. However, they are yet to do concreting works. We have also demanded that permission be granted to take a right turn from the Premier Jn. Currently it’s blocked to facilitate metro construction works,” said K K Sivanandan, member, Choornikkara panchayat.
