Chitoor too to join bus strike
Kerala private bus operators to go for an indefinite strike for high wages
Kochi: Private bus employees of Chitoor sector would join the indefinite strike by a section of workers if the employers do not heed to their wage raise demands, the Private Bus Workers Co-ordination Committee said on Sunday.
“We’re going on a sector-wide strike and currently 40 buses in Cheranallor region are not operating services. From Tuesday onwards, 60 buses in the Chitoor sector will join the strike,” said committee president K K Kaleshan.
The Vytilla-Vytilla buses have started plying again after the employees and employers signed agreement on revised wages. Accordingly, the drivers would get Rs 875, conductors Rs 660, second conductors Rs 620 and door checkers Rs 620 per day.
Meanwhile, Collector M G Rajamanickam asked the bus owners to operate the services by employing new drivers. “We’ve also directed the KSRTC to deploy additional buses in the Cheranellor route,” he said.
The private bus workers in the city launched sector-wide strike Friday last, demanding 50 per cent hike in daily wages.
