Andhra Pradesh sick pilgrims to be airlifted from Kolkata
There are 18 women and 10 children among the pilgrims
Nellore: The state government is making arrangements to bring back 33 AP pilgrims who are struck in Kolkata after they fell ill, due to food poisoning. Around 43 pilgrims from Kavali and Ongole left for a pilgrimage to Varanasi one week ago. They were admitted in a hospital in Kolkata when they fell sick after eating in a hotel at Howrah.
The victims did not inform their condition to their kin back home, as to avoid tension. However they were forced to call them after the money they took was exhausted.
There are 18 women and 10 children among the pilgrims and one among them Srikanth of Ongole informed the situation to Udayagiri legislator Bollineni Rama Rao. Mr Ramarao took the matter to minister Dr P. Narayana, who is on a official tour in Nellore district, and he inturn alerted the CM’s office and district administration to make arrangements to airlift the pilgrims to Chennai.
Mr Rama Rao said that he has directed his staff of his contract firm, who are executing a road work near Kolkata, to rush to Kolkata and address all the needs of the pilgrims. He said that one pilgrim Ganta Murali, 33, of Ongole is in the ICU and the condition of the others is stable.
