Ramesh Chennithala opposes reshuffle
Thiruvananthapuram: Home Minister Ramesh Chennithala, who met Congress president Sonia Gandhi and vice-president Rahul Gandhi in New Delhi, has expressed his opposition to Chief Minister Oommen Chandy’s move to reshuffle the cabinet, it is learnt. He also told the AICC leaders that the reinduction of former forest minister K. B. Ganesh Kumar into the cabinet would dent the image of the UDF.
However, Mr Chennithala later told reporters that he had not discussed anything about the cabinet shuffle with the AICC leadership. He is apparently upset over reports that Mr Chandy was likely to remove one or two ministers belonging to the ‘I’ group.
“Mr Oommen Chandy has also not discussed the matter with anyone so far. There is no crisis in the Congress or the UDF over the cabinet reshuffle,” said Mr Chennithala.
Chennithala could not meet Antony
Regarding Speaker G. Karthikeyan’s decision to step down and become active in the party, he said the party has to decide on it. Mr Chennithala could not meet AICC working committee member A. K. Antony as he has been admitted to the Army Hospital due to fever. He is expected to meet Mr Antony on Sunday.
