Shoddy road work near Malleswaram
Bengaluru: This is the sorry story of the road parallel to the railway near Shriramapuram, which is just next to Malleswaram.
The road work is yet to be completed by the contractor. But even before the completion of the work, the bitumen layer is peeling off in patches. Locals are bewildered about why BBMP officials are behaving like mute spectators over the issue. Now BBMP officials are saying that they are not aware of any such work in the locality.
According to the locals, this parallel road connects the Central, Manthri mall with Malleswaram railway station. Road repair work has been going on for over a month and work is yet to be completed. But the bitumen layer’s coming off and this has raised concern about the quality of the work.
According to the locals, at first they thought that it was because of heavy rain. But now potholes have been seen on the road, leading to the suspicion that sub- standard work has been executed in the area. Speaking to Deccan Chronicle, a local resident who wished to stay anonymous, stated that every one is surprised by the quality of the work. "Work started a few days ago. Everyone thought that they will get a good road as the new government had promised quality work. But unfortunately the BBMP is blind about this,” he said.
According to Mr. Dhanush RG, a student, the need of the hour is making maintenance mandatory for all the contractors for a fixed period. "In the previous monsoon, the then newly- selected Congress government alleged that BJP was responsible for the poor roads. But the new government is also repeating the same mistake," he said.
Local BBMP office staff informed that they were not aware of any work in the stretch or even about the substandard work. "If we receive any complaint in this regard, we will definitely act," said an officer.
