Hyderabad High Court tells Telangana, Andhra Pradesh to file affidavits
Hyderabad: A Division Bench of the Hyderabad High Court has directed both the Telangana and Andhra Pradesh governments to submit affidavits, explaining the steps taken for establishment of drug deaddiction centres in their respective states.
The Bench comprising Justice R. Subhash Reddy and Justice C. Praveen Kumar was dealing with a contempt case by Mamidi Venu Madhav, a practicing advocate of the High Court, seeking action against the officials for not implementing the court orders passed in July, 2012.
In 2012, the court disposed off a PIL by the advocate, directing the erstwhile Andhra Pradesh government to take steps to establish drug de-addiction centres in each and every district headquarters.
The court also gave directions for taking steps to propagate health awareness camps for drug addicted people.
As the authorities failed to implement the order, the advocate moved the contempt case.
The counsels representing Telangana and AP told the Bench that the authorities have already initiated steps towards establishment of such drug deaddiction centres in all districts of the two states.
The Bench directed them to file affidavits to that effect and posted the matter to August 22 for hearing.
Meanwhile, an advocate from the city, K.R. Vijay, has moved the Hyderabad High Court, requesting the court to direct the police to register cases under Section 302 of IPC against the authorities concerned by holding them responsible for the school bus accident at Masaipet village in Medak district on July 24, 2014.
He told the court that the ghastly incident took place at an unmanned level-crossing in the village as the railway authorities delayed in installation of gates even after sanction of budget by the Railway ministry.
He also said the management of Kakatiya Techno School has not followed proper procedure in appointing a driver to run the school bus. He prayed the court to direct the police to register murder cases against the Railway authorities and the school management.
The petitioner also urged the court to direct the Telangana state government to establish a regulatory authority to monitor the system of school transportation with special focus on condition of the bus and recruitment of drivers and cleaners who are working under the school management.
