Bihar fears flood after Nepal landslide, Centre raises alarm

Union Cabinet Secretary spoke to Bihar CS and promised all assistance

New Delhi/ Patna: The Crisis Management Committee (CMC), headed by Cabinet Secretary Ajit Seth, held an emergency meeting on Saturday after a landslide in Nepal has created an artificial dam on river Kosi, triggering possibility of a flood that could affect parts of Bihar.

Sources stated that a decision was taken to rush some experts to Nepal besides 15 teams of National Disaster Response Force (NDRF) to Bihar. After the meeting Mr Seth told that Prime Minister Narendra Modi had directed all help should be rendered to Bihar as well as Nepal to meet any emergency situation.

Significantly, the development occurred a day ahead of Mr Modi’s two-day visit to Nepal.

The PM was concerned over the situation and asked Mr Seth to do all the needful, sources stated. The Cabinet Secretary spoke to Bihar chief secretary and promised all assistance from the Centre.

Sources stated that a team of experts has been rushed to Nepal to help the country with technical support. Eight teams of NDRF have been sent to Bihar from Delhi and seven from Kolkata to help in rescue.
