Andhra Pradesh to control mosquitoes through medicinal plants
Hyderabad: AP is planning to fight mosquitoes in its towns and cities by growing medicinal plants. For this, the help of yoga guru Baba Ramdev will be taken to understand which herbal plants will help in keeping away mosquitoes and generate revenue.
Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu suggested to officials of forest and urban development departments to study the successful model of checking mosquito menace implemented in a resort in Hyderabad, and prepare an action plan on the variety of medicinal plants that would keep mosquitoes away.
In addition to fogging, using gambusia fish and other available scientific methods to control mosquitoes, medicinal plants will also be used.
“Check the medicinal plants being used in the resort in Hyderabad to control mosquito. Also, what variety of plants suit the weather in AP. Prepare an action plan for its implementation. There should be no compromise on ensuring healthy life for citizens,” Mr Naidu said.
The Chief Minister told the Forest department officials to take the help of Baba Ramdev in selection of medicinal plants that have greater herbal and medicinal values. “The plantation of medicinal value-saplings should be taken up in a big way in Andhra Pradesh so that they not only improve ground water recharge and environmental conditions but also bring in revenues to the AP State government,” Naidu told the Forest Department Principal Chief Conservator.
The Forest department officials have been asked to plant medicinal saplings in Nallamalla forest area and also various other forest areas in the State. Medicinal and herbal plants are used in manufacture of Ayurveda medicines as such officials will consult Baba Ramdev.
