After Anna canteens, Andhra Pradesh to build toilets
Hyderabad: After emulating Amma canteens in Tamil Nadu as Anna (NTR) canteens in AP, the state has decided to rename the Namma latrines in TN as ‘Maa latrinulu’ (our latrines). Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu on Saturday held a video conference with district collectors and other officials and reviewed various programmes.
The CM expressed dissatisfaction over the functioning of medical, health and education departments and added that the first two were in the worst shape. He urged officials to improve their style of functioning or face action.
Referring to the dismal below average immunisation in the state, Mr Naidu asked the collectors to ensure that the outbreak of diseases is contained through 100% immunisation. The CM also emphasised on education saying, “The farmers are sending their children to schools by selling their agricultural lands, but the Class V students were not even good enough as Class II students. We must improve the standards of children through quality education”.
He requested collectors to ensure 100% enrolment of students under the “Badi Pilustondi” scheme. He also proposed that the schemes be linked to Aadhaar. He talked about stemming dropouts in schools and constructing toilets, particularly for girls, in all schools. He suggested to the district officials to construct “Maa latrines” on the lines of “Namma latrines” in Tamil Nadu.
The issue of loan waiver was also discussed by the CM, who asked collectors to ensure that bankers act immediately on it and issue fresh loans. He informed them of the government’s decision to waive Rs 1.5 lakh worth of farm loan to each family.
In the drought hit districts of Ananthapur and Kadapa, the government has designed a contingency plan for alternative crops that wouldn’t require much water.
He asked the district officials to look into restoration of old tanks and construct new ones and added that water conservation is one of the top priorities.
