‘Wish voting process was transparent’

Kushal Punjabi elimination on Jhalak Dikhhla Jaa has come as a surprise
Mumbai:Kushal Punjabi’s elimination on Jhalak Dikhhla Jaa has come as a surprise to many. Touted as one of the strongest contenders on the show, Kushal tells us, “More than shocked, I am confused. All along I was told that the show is about dance. But during the elimination, the other couple won because the judges were impressed with their concept. Karan (Johar) said, ‘we know you are a superior dancer, but his (co-contestant) concept was better. So I am a tad confused about what was expected of me. Besides, the concept is something that the choreographers and channel decide. How can I be eliminated for it? I was also told that I couldn’t garner enough votes too. I wish the counting process was more transparent,” he says.
Having said that, Kushal doesn’t undermine the good moments on the show.
“I loved every moment on the show and worked hard on it. I had viral fever during the last performance, but I still went ahead and performed. I will cherish the good things and the judges’ comments in the course of these past few weeks. I got to dance on such a big platform, met Madhuri Dixit and also got kids from an NGO that I support to meet her. So it was all good, but the end has left me a little confused.”
Does he believe that entering as the wild card may have something to do with his early exit? “I know that wild cards rarely win on such shows, but that can change if there is more transparency in the voting process. The older contestants on the show had one month training and had been performing for 6-7 weeks before I entered the show. I still managed to outscore some older contestants,” he adds. Speaking about who he wishes to see in top-three slot Kushal says, “Shakti Mohan, Mouni Roy and Tara Jean Popowich.”
