When we feel we’ve seen enough in showbiz, someone else does something extraordinary to create shock waves. Recently, when Aamir Khan’s poster for PK was released for first view, it generated a series of online reactions — some good and some bad.
Even King Khan has taken a dig at this poster and allegedly called it “vulgar” at a reality show announcement. Many people questioned the idea behind the poster and wondered why Aamir, who needs no publicity, would do a scandalising stint like this. Zakir Khan, stand-up comedian and radio professional, says, “I think this poster is too extreme. Even though Aamir is known for his interesting publicity antics, this is taking it too far.”
Whereas, Boishali Sinha, art director and production designer in Bollywood, prefers not to judge this poster and calls it a good publicity gimmick. She says, “It is designed to up the curiosity factor. Aamir is known for his clever marketing strategies and releasing a poster like this has already garnered enough publicity — exactly the kind of response the film was aiming for.”
On the other hand, some feel it’s a bold step for Aamir and he had to do something extraordinary to divert attention from Salman and Shah Rukh, who are at top of their game currently.
Udit Ohri, theatre and TV actor, says, “I think it’s very gutsy of him to do something so bold at this age. Most people will think that he is mad and he doesn’t have to do it because he is already successful, but I feel that only an actor with real confidence can pull this off.”
However, Priyanka Mishra, a film journalist, points out that the poster is attention-seeking, and it has been created to raise the curiosity factor around the film. She says, “Though I am not sure if this scene would be an intrinsic part of the main plot, the first look of the film is outrageous. It was reported that the film is set in Bihar and something like this is too bold for a Bihari character. We would only get to know more details once the film is released.”
