US President Barack Obama eager to meet PM Modi, says John Kerry
Modi is slated to visit Washington this September for bilateral talks
New Delhi: The US has once again made it clear that it's not only eager to engage with the new Narendra Modi government but also to see bilateral ties being given a fresh impetus.
The message was conveyed to Prime Minister Narendra during an hour-long meeting that he had with visiting US secretary of state John Kerry and US secretary of commerce Penny Pritzker when the two called on him here on Friday.
According to a PMO statement the two conveyed to Mr Modi that US President Barack Obama “attaches great priority to relations with India” both in terms of bilateral cooperation and in terms of a global partnership.
They also conveyed to the PM that President Obama is looking forward to a a productive and fruitful Summit in September in Washington for setting an ambitious new agenda to chart a new course in the relationship.
The PM, in turn, conveyed his appreciation for President Obama’s thoughtful and detailed letter. He also asked both sides to prepare for “concrete outcomes” during the Summit that he will have with the US President in September in order to “take the relationship to an entirely new level, on the basis of vision, strategy and action plan.”
The duo also gave the PM the US perspective on the Strategic Dialogue between the two countries that was held here on Thursday. Mr Modi said that there was broad convergence of views between the two countries. He also outlined his vision for India and for the partnership between the world’s two largest democracies in addressing global challenges.
