New Delhi: The 16th Lok Sabha is likely to get its deputy speaker by next week with the Narendra Modi-led government planning to hold elections for the crucial post with enough indications that the post would be offered to AIADMK, the third largest party, and not the main Opposition Congress.
The Bhartiya Janata Party’s move is aimed at keeping the Congress at bay as well as cosying up to the Jayalalithaa-led party, which has 10 members in the Rajya Sabha, whose support could come as a boost for the government, which is a minority in the RS.
Highly placed sources said on Friday that the elections to the deputy speaker would be held next week and the BJP will offer the post to an Opposition party.
