Bengaluru rape case: Vibgyor new rule angers parents
School has made it mandatory for special kids to be accompanied by shadow teachers
Bengaluru: In the eye of a storm since a six-year-old was allegedly raped on its campus recently, Vibgyor High, Marathalli, has now upset parents of children with special needs in its rolls by making new demands on them and refusing to take responsibility for the special instructors needed to teach them.
According to sources, in a circular dated July 30, the management has advised all students under the supervision of a shadow teacher not to come to school without them and has placed the onus on doing a background check of these instructors on the parents, asking them to give the school all information pertaining to them before August 31 this year.
Fuming parents, however, point out that the school brochure claims it has special educators to teach children with special needs and the management even charges an extra fee for appointing these instructors. “But now it wants all parents of children with special needs to appoint shadow teachers at their own expense and for students to attend classes with them,” they say angrily.

Some parents allege the school is out to take revenge. "School officials probably feel their reputation has been hurt because of a student with special needs and are venting their anger on the parents of similar students.
How can the school direct parents to appoint a dedicated shadow teacher when it claims to be inclusive and also charges an extra fee to admit them?” asks a parent, demanding immediate action from DPI against this sort of harassment. The school authorities were not available for their comment on the new guidelines.
