Kumbakonam fire tragedy, Court summons chief secretary

94 children were burnt alive and 14 sustained burn injuries in the fire accident

Chennai: The Madras high court ordered notice for the appearance of the then chief secretary and school education secretary before the court on September 1 in connection with a contempt of court case relating to compensation to the families of the victims of Kumbakonam school fire tragedy. As many as 94 children were burnt alive and 14 sustained burn injuries in the fire accident.

A division bench comprising Justices N. Paul Vasanthakumar and K. Ravichandrabaabu posted to September 1, further hearing of the contempt petition filed by K Inbaraj, whose two sons were burnt alive in the fire accident and also the secretary of Kumbakonam School Fire Tragedy Victims Association.

Etitioner’s counsel Tamilarasan said as per the order of the court, the authorities have to carry out the directions of the single judge in all aspects within two weeks. However, till date they have not carried out the orders of the court.
