Tamil Nadu model best to resolve row: K Jana Reddy

Mohammad Ali Shabbir advised both the governments and resolve the controversy over Eamcet counselling

Hyderabad: Leader of the Opposition in the state Assembly K. Jana Reddy has suggested that the Telangana state government examine the Tamil Nadu model for implementing the fee reimbursement scheme for students.

He said there was confusion over the announcement made by Chief Minister K. Chandrasekhar Rao on extending fee-reimbursement to students of those natives of Telangana before November 1956.

Speaking to reporters at the CLP office here on Thursday, Mr Jana Reddy said that as far as his knowledge goes; the Tamil Nadu government has been implementing all welfare measures to those students whose parents were born in the state, irrespective of any particular year. Even in Maharashtra, schemes are being extended to those, whose mother tongue is Marathi. “We cannot look into the Maharashtra model as here Telugu is the mother tongue for both Telangana and Andhra Pradesh.”

He was critical of the government for creating confusion among even genuine students of Telangana, as securing records on their nativity way back in 1956 will pose a problem. “It is just not possible to secure records of those years to determine the nativity of Telangana persons and it will create unnecessary hardship for the students,” Mr Jana Reddy said.

Meanwhile, at a separate media conference, Deputy Leader of the Congress in Telangana Legislative Council Mohammad Ali Shabbir advised both the governments of Telangana and Andhra Pradesh to sit, discuss and resolve the controversy over Eamcet counselling.

“Both are allowing their egos to overshadow the interest of lakhs of Telugu students,” he said.
