Ram Gopal Varma set to auction film
This is director’s first shot at ‘direct selling’
Hyderabad: According to filmmaker Ram Gopal Varma, the current “producer-distributor-buyer-exhibitor” system is “utter rubbish”.
The director is now reaching out to his buyers directly through an online bidding system and an upcoming Vishnu Manchu film will be the first to undergo this experiment, with a few ‘demo parts’ of the movie going up on auction at filmauction.in. Interested buyers can bid for the rights of any centre in the system that will be open from August 1 to 9.
According to a release, the initial bid amount will be decided by the film’s unit and revenue from the theatres after the release of the film will be distributed between the buyers. The plan seems radical enough, but will be able to pull it off?
