Telangana Governor returns file on MLC nomination of Karne Prabhakar
According to Reorganisation Act only 14 members can be elected from the local body constituencies
Hyderabad: Governor E.S.L. Narasimhan has reportedly sent back the file containing the Cabinet resolution, recommending senior TRS functionary Karne Prabhakar as MLC under nomination quota.
Sources said the Governor took the decision as the AP Reorganisation Act did contain some discrepancies in allotment of total membership for the Telangana Legislative Council, which were pointed out to this newspaper.
The Telangana State Cabinet has cleared the appointment of Mr Prabhakar, under the Governor’s nomination quota, and the file sent to the Governor for necessary orders. However, it is learnt that the Governor has sent back the file stating that he cannot nominate a person now, unless there’s clarity from the Centre on the total membership of the Council.
In the Reorganisation Act, it was erroneously mentioned that 14 members have to be elected from the local body constituencies, though presently there are 15. Similarly, taking into account the total members to be nominated, which was fixed as 6, the AP government has written to the Centre that it should be 5.
Presently there are five members under the nomination category. Sources said the Governor has written on the file stating that the Centre should clarify on the total membership category-wise.
The Governor had earlier sent back the file regarding the appointment of one Anglo-Indian member to the Telangana Legislative Assembly.
