Centre: No fear about drought
New Delhi: The Union government claims that there is no fear of drought like situations after the late revival of the monsoon rains this month.
The monsoon rains, which had been 24 per cent deficient so far, have picked up in various states in the recent days.
“No state has yet approached for any proposal to address concerns of drought in their areas. The rains have revived and we expect more rains in the coming days,” said Union agriculture minister Radha Mohan Singh.
The Union minister maintained that there are better prospects of the monsoon deficit further narrowing in the coming days.
Even independent experts have claimed that the El Nino fears have subsided, which was earlier expected to affect the Monsoon rains. Of late, the vulnerable states like Gujarat, Rajasthan, Maharashtra too have got good rains, said a senior agriculture minister official.
Officials maintained that this year the monsoon trend is somewhat a repeat of 2012 when in the earlier months there were huge deficit but covered substantially in the later parts of the rainy season.
