Kidney racket busted in Andhra Pradesh
Vijayawada donor for Hyderabad patient were illegal
Vijayawada: The Vijayawada police on Tuesday busted a Hyderabad-based kidney racket and arrested five people.
Addressing a press conference here, in-charge central zone ACP G. Rama Krishna said that donor Miriyala Kranthi Durga Prasad of Vijayawada, middlemen B. Balaji Singh, B. Prudhviraj Singh and G. Umadevi who made duplicate rubber stamps, and M. Naga Sai, who posed as the donor’s wife, were arrested.
Balaji Singh’s brother, B. Devaraj Singh, who had forged the signatures and Sai Kumar, a key player in the racket, are still at large.
According to the police, Sai Kumar of Kukatpally, Hyderabad, had approached one Chakravarthi Srinivas who was undergoing treatment for kidney problems at Satya Kidney Centre, Hyderabad a fortnight ago. He offered to get him a donor and informed Balaji Singh, a former film distributor in Jangared-dygudem of West Godavari district. Balaji had been supplying kidney donors to Sai for a year after incurring losses in his business.
Balaji told his brother’s son, Prudhviraj, about the need for a kidney donor and asked him to spread the word, said the police adding that Prudhviraj’s debt-ridden friend Kranthi Durga Prasad offered a kidney for Rs 2 lakh.
