Plea filed in Hyderabad High Court against Mallika Sherawat

Hyderabad: Human rights activist, Mr T. Dhangopal Rao, has moved the Hyderabad High Court seeking action against Bollywood actress Mallika Sherawat for allegedly obscenely using the Indian tricolour in her upcoming film Dirty Politics.

He submitted that the actress and producer, Mr Kastoor Chand Bokadia, had intentionally humiliated the national flag by using it obscenely in the film’s first-look poster.

The poster shows the actress sitting atop a beaconed ambassador car with the tricolour draped below her waist.

Mr T. Dhangopal Rao contended that the use of the national flag for commercial purposes was an insult to the nation’s honour and urged the court to restrain the producer from further exhibiting or displaying the poster as part of the film’s promotion.

Mr T. Dhangopal Rao also prayed the court to direct the Centre to seize all related material and to punish the guilty for their alleged violation of the provisions of The Emblems and Names (Prevention of Improper Use) Act, 1950 and Prevention of Insults to National Honour Act, 1971.
