Rains bring cheer in Telangana and Andhra Pradesh

Kharif operations pick up in both states; more rains ahead

Hyderabad: Rains across the Telangana state and Andhra Pradesh have brought cheer to both the general public and farmers facing a water crisis.

Depression in the Bay of Bengal during the past 24 hours has led to widespread rains in both the states, which have been facing delayed monsoon.

Kharif operations have picked up in both the states.

The Southwest monsoon has been vigorous over coastal Andhra Pradesh and active over Telangana State.

In the next 24 hours, rain and thundershowers are predicted in parts of Hyderabad as well.

The low pressure area now lies over north-west Bay of Bengal and west central bay off Odisha, said the meteorological department, Hyderabad

On Monday, rains lashed most places in Telangana, many places in coastal Andhra Pradesh and isolated places in Rayalaseema.

In Andhra Pradesh, Koyyalagudem in West Godavari received 23 cm rainfall followed by Dowleshwaram (East Godavari) 11 cm, Piduguralla (Guntur) 11 cm, Chintalapudi (West Godavari) 10 and Tadepalligudem (West Godavari) 10 cm.

Telangana state received widespread rainfall with Khammam district receiving the maximum rainfall. Chintoor in Khammam received 15 cm rainfall, followed by Aswaraopeta with 13 cm, Burgampadu and Kukunoor both got 12 cm. Warangal’s Parkal got 10cm, while Bhupalpalle received 6 cm and Eturnagaram 5 cm. In Adilabad, Chennur got 4 cm rains and Miryalaguda in Nalgonda got 3 cm.

Hyderabad received 5.3 mm of rainfall between 8.30 pm on July 27 and 8.30 pm on July 28.

Waterlogging was reported at LIC Colony in Marredpally, Old Alwal, Kharkhana, Toli Chowki, parts of the old city, Mayuri Marg in Begumpet and Attapur. Waterlogging at Malakpet gunj forced the traffic police to divert vehicles towards the Nalgonda crossroads flyover.

Complaints of rainwater flooding shops came from near Gulzar Houz. Some houses in Talabkatta, Amannagar, Lalitabagh, Macca Colony, Hasannagar, Suleimannagar and Kala Pather in the old city also reported of the same problem.

Residents of Kundan Bagh, Hakimpet, Banjara Hills, Jubilee Hills, Marredpally, Bhoiguda and Bowenpally suffered erratic power cuts.

“Moderate to heavy rains and thundershowers are likely at many places in Coastal Andhra Pradesh and Telangana, while light to moderate thundershowers have been predicted in a few places in Rayalaseema over the next three days,” said Y.K. Reddy, director-in-charge, Met Hyderabad.

While there will be no major change in the next four days in Telangana and Rayalaseema, there will be a decrease in rainfall in Coastal AP.

Power supply was disrupted in several districts across both the state.
