GHMC zonal offices to be made independent
Hyderabad: As a part of the de-centralisation plans for the Greater Hyderabad area, every zonal office will be made an independent body, with powers to approve and sanction up to Rs 50 lakh. while the head quarters will only deal with policy matters and permission for big projects and multi storied buildings.
The zonal offices will be under five zonal commissioners, monitored by the municipal chief. Zonal commissioners will no longer be dependent on the commissioner for funds approval, permission to carry out civic works and even for approval of new projects. All permission of buildings (up to five levels), trade licence and certificates will be sanctioned at the zonal level.
The municipal corporation will convert regional offices into head-offices in their jurisdiction, which will in turn reduce time taken by tax payers and officials.
“The whole idea is to hand over designated powers and de-centralise the corporation.” said Somesh Kumar, GHMC commissioner.
